The Best Places to Eat in (Almost) Every College Town
What is it about college that makes the food scene so great? Maybe it’s because we’re starving students, maybe it’s nostalgia…maybe the restaurants really are that delicious. We love food from all over the country, but we’re especially fond of the food from those charming university towns that have so much to offer.
Some cities are famous for their food: Philadelphia has the cheesesteak, Washington D.C. has the half smoke, and Chicago has deep-dish pizza. But college towns are perhaps best known for everything!
For example, at the the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, you can get fresh bagels at Luke’s NY Bagels or an authentic Cubano at La Cocina de Abuela. At the George Washington University in Washington, DC, you can snack on Hot Crab & Artichoke Dip at Founding Farmers or the famous Palak Chaat at Rasika. And you can’t visit Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas without eating White Truffle pizza at Olivella’s Pizza or anything at the Michelin-starred steakhouse Knife.
You wouldn’t be doing these college towns right without eating at least a few meals (and having maybe a few more drinks), so we’re here to make sure you don’t make that mistake.
Whether you’re visiting a city that happens to host a college campus, like College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, or a town primarily known for its college, like College Station, Texas, home of Texas A&M, this guide has you covered.
Below is a complete list of every college dining guide you can find on American Eats, categorized by city or if they’re part of our SEC dining guide. Enjoy!
