Miami | Ft Lauderdale, FL Restaurant Guide
My oh my – Miami’s food scene is one of the best in America! Everyone knows the City’s rich history as the Northern Capital of Latin America, and along with it comes a delicious history of Cuban, Haitian and Jamaican cuisine. But the city is also home to world-class restaurants that take experimental approaches to fine dining, delicious hole-in-the-walls with one-of-a-kind breakfasts, and the best late-night noshes in North America.
Let’s start with some of the staples that Miami is known for. Stone Crabs are native all over the Atlantic region and are legal to harvest from mid October to mid May, so you know that’s when they’re at their freshest. We cover all the best spots to get Stone Crab distributed throughout Miami-Dade and Broward. Plus, you can’t visit South Florida without indulging in Key Lime Pie. Invented in the late 19th century, it’s one of those only in Florida creations – local limes, plus sweetened condensed milk which had to be used because fresh, refrigerated milk was unavailable at the time. Check out our full list of Miami’s best Key Lime Pie properties.
Of course, South Florida cuisine isn’t all Key Limes and Stone Crabs. Great Blue Crab, Catfish, Key West Pink Shrimp, Mullet and more can all be found throughout Florida’s coasts and in the area’s best seafood restaurants. Miami is no exception to this maritime melange – we cover some of their best seafood restaurants in our guides.
Lots of folks head to South Florida for a getaway – from work, from the kids or just from regular boring old life. That’s why we’ve identified some of the most romantic restaurants in the area – perfect for a date night from out of towers or those in town looking to escape. Plus, with a big influx of crypto currency and a history of big money in the City, it only makes sense that there’s a scene of Michelin and Beard award winning restaurants, with the prices to match. Find them all in our guide to Fanciest Miami restaurants.
But going back to the thing that makes Miami stand out from other American cities – it’s thriving Latin American population. Cubans have been the most recognized and populous group of Latinos in the area since the rise of Communism on the island in the 1950’s. With nearly 70 years of history in the area, it only stands to reason that the best Cuban food in the country can be found in Miami. We share some of our favorites, including the best Cuban sandwiches in the area, in our guides. More recently, groups from all over Latin America have headed to Miami to start their American dreams, specifically coming from Colombia. And if there’s one thing Colombians are known for, it’s their mouthwatering Arepas. Check out our guide for Miami’s best arepas here.
We should also note that Miami and Fort Lauderdale are big – with a population over 6 million people, the area ranks 8th in the US in population size. We’re endeavoring to cover every town and neighborhood in the area, but for now we’ve focused on places that out of towners are typically tumbling about, with guides focused on what to eat around Hard Rock Stadium and Miami Beach. But watch this space – we’ll be covering more Miami neighborhoods soon!
