The Best Irish Pubs in Phoenix, AZ
Luck favors those who choose to dine at Phoenix’s incredible Irish pubs. While you’re far more likely to see a cactus than a shamrock in Phoenix, this city known as the Valley of the Sun will have you double checking that you’re not in Dublin after you finish a local bar crawl. Here’s a glance at the eight best Irish pubs in Phoenix, AZ.
Connolly’s Sports Grill
2605 West Carefree Highway, Phoenix, AZ
(623) 879-5997
This neighborhood pub is where Irish spirits meet sports. Once we saw Connolly’s impressive list of domestic and imported drafts and bottles, the huge crowd at the door made sense. Locals love the vibrant, party-like atmosphere inside this bar. After splitting a plate of mini cordon bleu balls called Leprechaun Balls with the table, it was time to tuck into a tasty plate of traditional bangers and mash made with grilled Irish sausage, caramelized onions, and gravy. Connolly’s Sports Grill is a top Irish joint where nights are never boring!
Seamus McCaffrey’s
18 West Monroe Street, Phoenix, AZ
(602) 253-6081
Located in the heart of downtown, Seamus McCaffrey’s offers a classic pub experience in a jolly, upbeat atmosphere. In a world of fly-by-night bars claiming to be the real thing, it was reassuring to learn that Seamus McCaffrey’s has been a Phoenix staple since 1991! While the corned beef cabbage and shepherd’s pie both looked tempting, it was the menu’s chicken pot pie featuring tender chunks of chicken, peas, carrots, pearl onions, and a pond of cream sauce housed in a flaky crust that won. The drink menu is a real adventure. An encyclopedia-sized menu of whisky and scotch drinks is enough to satisfy even the biggest liquor snobs. Wine, beer, and flights are also available.
The Dubliner Irish Pub
3841 East Thunderbird Road (Suite 111), Phoenix, AZ
(602) 867-0984
The Dubliner more than delivers on atmosphere. This vibrant, music-filled Irish bar is a great place to end up on Friday and Saturday nights. The Guinness chicken made with seared chicken breast topped with Guinness gravy and sautéed mushrooms was incredible! The mashed potatoes and soda bread included with the meal were equally as impressive. While the food at Dubliner is tasty, the real reason why most people come here is to share a pint with friends!
The Whining Pig
201 East Washington Street (Suite 104), Phoenix, AZ
(602) 603-9987
The Whining Pig is a great “hole in the wall” pub that really does make it feel like you’re passing right through a hole that leads to Ireland! The small size of this pub gives it an intimate, local feel. The bartenders will be happy to help you make your selection from over 125 craft beers! Splitting a menu item called The Heart that featured fig spread, prosciutto, and goat cheese while settling in with the first drink of the night was a great way to experience all the flavors this pub has to offer.
Feeney’s Restaurant and Bar
6314 North 12th Street, Phoenix, AZ
(602) 274-9700
Feeney’s does an exceptional London broil served with sherry mushroom sauce. The mashed potatoes also showed off cloud-like perfection! We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Feeney’s secretly has one of the best salad bars in Phoenix. Overall, this is a great spot for a night out for pub dining without the noise and fanfare found at other pubs around the city. One pro tip about dining at Feeney’s is that many of the signature entrées on the dinner menu are much cheaper if you show up for lunch!
The Kettle Black Kitchen & Pub
1 North 1st Street (Suite 108), Phoenix, AZ
(602) 651-1185
A menu peppered with Guinness braised beef short rib, corned beef and cabbage, fish and chips, and bangers and mash puts Kettle Black on the map as one of Phoenix’s best Irish pubs. However, it just takes one bite to discover that it’s the brioche bread pudding made with Irish whiskey crème anglaise and house-made caramel sauce that makes regulars out of first-time guests. The hall-like setting only adds to this pub’s authenticity!
Brennan’s Pub & Grub
3510 East Bell Road, Phoenix, AZ
(602) 867-8106
This fun Irish sports bar hosts watching events, poker games, and trivia nights throughout the week. We had to find out what Brennan’s Irish nachos were all about during a recent visit. Featuring fries or tots in place of tortilla chips, this Celtic concoction can be topped with a choice of melted cheddar or house-made queso. A drink menu featuring a blend of specialty mixed drinks and specialty shots makes this pub stand out. For those planning a long night, the Shawn bomb featuring cherry Smirnoff, cranberry juice, and energy drink is worth experiencing!
O’Brien’s Sports Pub
7829 North 35th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ
(602) 841-3980
O’Brien’s brings things back to basics by supplying a great spot for shooting some pool in between bites of wings. The drinks here are priced just right! A laid-back, friendly atmosphere combined with an attentive staff made this feel like a place we could keep coming back to week after week to catch up with the same faces.
