Stoop Burger with Double Beef, Tillamook Cheddar, Caramelized Onion, Dill Pickle, and Dijonaise on a Brioche Bun from Stoop Kid in Phoenix, Arizona
Stoop Burger | Stoop Kid

1. Stoop Kid

901 N 1st Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004

A burger place that doesn’t offer french fries? Is this even possible in the United States? When the burgers are this tasty, no fries are needed (though they do have some killer house-made chips). Stoop Kid is part of the Churchill open-air food hall in downtown Phoenix. The branding is trendy and playful (inspired by a famous episode of Hey Arnold where a youth with the name Stoop Kid is afraid to leave his stoop) but the food is old-school and comforting. Look no further than the titular Stoop Burger. It’s as classic as a burger can be (double patties, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and pickles) with the added twist of Dijonaise to bring the mustard flavor with the creaminess of mayo. The burger is hearty but not overly heavy and a side order of their house-made chips (with a lovely seasoned salt) will certainly give you the courage to leave your stoop and check this place out.

2. Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co.

201 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix, AZ 85004
(480) 462-1836

Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. has a massive patio to attract customers and the delicious food to keep them coming back. One of their heaviest hitters is the Downtowner Burger, topped with fire-roasted corn guacamole, pepper jack cheese, crispy onion strings, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle ranch. The guacamole has a unique smoky flavor from the roasted corn and a satisfying crunch from the onion strings. They have several tasty sides, but if you go a bit lighter with the Jalapeno Slaw, you’ll still be heavily pleased, thanks to the southwestern flavor of the spicy with the sharp bite of the red onion and carrots. The only challenge from here is deciding what beer to get and which table to grab on that beautiful patio.

3. Matty G’s Steakburgers

6025 N. 16th St, Phoenix, AZ
(602) 296-5834

Matty G’s Steakburgers is a great spot to go to with friends or family. When you are just looking to kick back and relax and get your hands on a super tasty burger, this is a destination that you won’t want to miss. This location loves to keep all your favorite local sports teams on the TV for guests to stay connected to the big game. The burgers here are full of flavor, and are made from only the best steak cuts of beef. The flavor along with the size of these steak burgers are what really sets this spot apart from others. You can never go wrong with their classic double burger topped with grilled cheese, onions, lettuce, and maybe the most important part, the Matty G’s fry sauce. It’s heavenly!

4. Ingo’s Tasty Food

4502 N 40th St, Phoenix, AZ 85018
(602) 795-2884

This burger location is tucked away in a small and circular building with a patio that surrounds it. Although the Ingo kitchen is very small, they really deliver exceptionally good-tasting burgers. The Texas burger can’t be missed. It’s topped with crispy bacon, cheese, and an interestingly flavored apple barbecue sauce. All burgers are served on a fresh bun baked at their sister restaurant, LGO Bake Shop. Ingo’s also has a great tasting all-day vegan breakfast burrito made from black beans so you don’t have to worry about the “vegan veto” here!

5. Tru Burger Co.

2535 N Central Ave, Phoenix AZ 85004
(602) 253-6769

Tru Burger Co. is not your average simple burger joint on the corner to get a quick fix. Rather, this burger restaurant takes on a more elaborate yet casual approach. There are over a dozen unique burger inventions on the menu. There really is a different flavor that will quench any of your taste buds. The green chili burger is a total fan favorite. It comes topped with Tru Burger’s custom green chilis, chipotle mayo, pico de Gallo, and also comes with a side of their queso to dip the burger into. And be sure to dip their french fries in the queso, too!

6. Aioli Gourmet Burgers

10652 N 32nd St, Phoenix, AZ 85028
(602) 971-5555

Aioli on everything is what can be expected from this restaurant. Aioli Gourmet Burgers offers seven aiolis that are all made in-house. There are many great menu options here, but when it comes to the burgers, you should try the burger that has won awards. The basil aioli burger can’t be tried. Topped with fresh mozzarella, bacon, balsamic reduction, and tomatoes, the flavor profiles are clean and crisp. The California burger is topped with chipotle aioli, avocado, pepper jack cheese, pickled onions, and a fried egg to top it all. No matter which burger you choose, be sure to ask for extra aioli. You’re going to love this brick and mortar spot.

7. The Attic Ale House

4247 E Indian School Rd #102, Phoenix, AZ 85018
(602) 955-1967

This restaurant is kind of tucked away from basic view and is located on the second floor of the building. The patio is a great place to take in the views of Camelback Mountain while enjoying a top-quality burger. One of the favorite burgers showcased is called the Ivan. A half-pound patty topped with cheese, tomato, red onion, greens, and The Attic Ale House’s original chipotle mayo. This burger was even named Top 5 Burgers in the World by burgerguide.com! What really sets this burger apart is the pretzel bun. You will probably want to grab a side of their truffle french fries, which are very tasty.

8. Paradise Valley Burger Co.

4001 E Bell Rd #102, Phoenix, AZ 85032
(602) 535-4930

When a place has been featured on both Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives AND Man v. Food, do you really need any convincing to check it out? Paradise Valley Burger Co. is notorious for their Brulee Burger: a quarter-pound beef patty topped with bacon, egg, Havarti cheese, pickled onion, and 1,000 Island dressing atop a burnt sugar bun (hence the name). There’s also the Booze Burger: beer-battered patties with green chili, bacon, vodka cream sauce, lettuce, and whisky-pickled jalapeños. Don’t forget an order of either Sweet Potato Tater Tots or French Toast Fries (brioche battered and fried then served with syrup).

9. Harvey’s Wineburger

4812 N 16th St, Phoenix, AZ 85016
(602) 248-9950

Harvey’s Wineburger is home of, well, the Wineburger. It’s named as such because the beef patty is prepared with a splash of wine before being topped with lettuce, pickle, tomato, and onion. This dive bar also slings a mean Garlic Patty Melt served with grilled mushrooms, bacon, and their homemade garlic parmesan sauce. You also need to check out their Onion Rings and Jalapeno Bottle Caps, adding a lovely crunch to your meal. Just make sure you wipe off your hands before you throw your darts or shoot pool.

10. Lucky Boy Burger Shop

3430 N 16th St, Phoenix, AZ 85016
(602) 274-6440

This small, old-school burger joint doesn’t do anything too fancy, but when their food is this good, who needs anything upscale? Look no further than the Lucky Burger, with pickles, LTO, and a variety of ranch, mustard, or 1,000 Island dressing. You can start with a quarter-pound patty, or step it up with a half-pound, ¾-pound, or even a full pound. You also definitely need a side of Zucchini Hot Poppers or Mushroom Nuggets to add some deep-fried goodness to your order. And you didn’t hear it from us, but their milkshakes will definitely bring you to their yard.

11. Rocket Burger

12038 N 35th Ave #2, Phoenix, AZ 85029
(602) 993-0834

Rocket Burger will have your taste buds blasting off into orbit with their high quality ingredients and perfect preparation. Whether you’re getting a sub, like The New Yorker or a burger like the Teriyaki Burger with teriyaki sauce, pineapple, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and swiss, you’ll be a happy camper. This menu has plenty of burger options with creative and delicious toppings. This spot has an old school hang out vibe, and the insane amount of sodas they offer is definitely a favorite of the diners here.

Brewlee Burger with fried egg, peppered bacon, pepper jack, fresh leafy greens, pickled red onion, sriracha Mayo, and caramelized sugar from Angel’s Trumpet Ale House in Phoenix, Arizona
Brewlee Burger | Angel’s Trumpet Ale House

12. Angel’s Trumpet Ale House

810 N 2nd St, Phoenix, AZ 85004
(602) 252-2630

Angel’s Trumpet Ale House can be many things: a boozy brunch, a spot to watch the game, a place to discover new beers from their 20+ options on tap, or just somewhere to enjoy some of the finest burgers in town. The Brewlee Burger is one of the most well-composed burgers in town, with fried egg, peppered bacon, pepper jack, fresh leafy greens, pickled red onion, sriracha mayo,  and, most impressively, caramelized sugar on the bun, which makes the bun resemble a creme brulee in flavor and texture! The other ingredients play together beautifully well, creating a beautiful symphony of flavors. Dont’ be afraid to opt for the cole slaw, a refreshing vinegary mix with feta cheese and craisins, which elevate it even more. After housing one of these beefy burgers, you’ll appreciate a light side like this.
