O-Ku always gathers a crowd, which tells you just how good the food is. The high ceilings and exposed brick provide a beautiful environment. Be sure to take advantage of their happy hour which provides you with delicious appetizers, rolled sushi, and some O-Ku original cocktails for less.

The chefs at Sushi-Wa never disappoint. The restaurant is found inside Pacific Box & Crate, which is how we stumbled on this amazing restaurant. The chef’s choice of rolls is always the way to go, and it has helped us to discover some new and exciting flavors. The clean and airy atmosphere is ideal for when you want to hang out with friends. Try the Sushi Omakase, the sashimi, and everything else on the menu as you’ll never be disappointed.

Shiki is conveniently located in Ansonborough Square. You’ll find a full Japanese menu available to you. Specialty sushi rolls and sashimi are found, and you’re likely to find a few options that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s part of the charm. The venue is unpretentious with a beautiful compact design, making it ideal for date night. There’s a full bar menu, which includes some cocktails that are made with sake. Their miso soup is a great way to start off your meal, especially if you’re feeling a bit hungry.

We happened onto 167 Sushi Bar late one night. They’re open until 10 PM or 10:30 PM most days, but they are closed on Sundays. We loved the artsy vibe throughout as well as the picture-perfect sushi. Beyond your traditional sushi and sashimi, they also have ichiban and izakaya. There’s always a daily special, and we highly recommend finding out what it is. The place is small, but when you find a table, it’s totally worth it.

Hachiya is known for its family-friendly environment as well as its incredible sushi menu. There’s truly something for everyone, with everything from rolls to tempura to teppanyaki. Cocktails, wines, and even sake are available from the bar. The chefs truly know how to put on a show, and the food is highly reviewed. Even when you don’t want a show, there are still plenty of seating and food options available.

FishBowl is a casual place where you can order at the counter and find a seat wherever you’d like. They also do quite the takeout business. It’s found inside the King Street Grocery. The sushi list seemingly goes on forever, though you’ll also find steamed buns, poke bowls, and more to ensure you eat well. They are closed on Tuesdays, so be sure that you plan your dining experience accordingly.

MESU stands out as a great choice for sushi. It is located in the Hyatt House Charleston of the Historic District. Hand rolls include spicy tuna, Hawaiian white fish, and salmon. Plus, there are plenty of other incredible options that include not only sushi but also tacos, spring rolls, and more. The fusion food is always best with a cocktail, such as the Japanese mule. Of course, they also have tequila flights. The colorful interior ensures you’ll enjoy the vibe. And if you have the room, we recommend finishing your meal with a caramel-filled churro.

Aji has become a neighborhood hangout for those who are not only looking for sushi but also the hibachi grill experience. You’ll be able to find delicious sushi that is made to order as well as bento boxes and other delicious menu items. We love that there are so many rolls to choose from, though the Ocean Three Roll may be one of our favorites. Beer and wine can also be paired with anything that you order. The relaxed interior offers an environment for the whole family.
