Poogan’s Porch

72 Queen St, Charleston, SC 29401
(843) 577-2337

Poogan’s Porch shouts southern hospitality from the tops of its Victorian townhouse setting. You’ll find classic porches along with a massive wine cellar. You know the food is good when they’ve been able to stay in business since 1976. Casual seating is scattered about, and the bar is always ready to serve up seasonal cocktails. The truest form of Southern cuisine is found within their chicken and waffle. The Belgian waffle is served with syrup on the side. Meanwhile, the chicken skin is crisped to perfection.

We love grits, so when Grace & Grit entered our radar, we knew we had to try it. They know what they’re doing, and the creative flavors are found all throughout their menu. Stunning glass windows in the dining room show off an equally impressive patio, providing you with countless seating options. Their chicken and waffle dish is also served with hot honey. You’ll also find a number of locally sourced ingredients, and we recommend the local shrimp & smoked gouda grits.

The Rarebit

The Rarebit is a gastropub with a lot of character. We love the darker setting as well as the seating at the bar. Cozy booths also fill half of the dining room. A number of American classics are featured on the menu with a slightly southern spin. The Belgian waffle and buttermilk fried chicken pairing is served with honey butter and syrup. We’re also a huge fan of their southern fried catfish that also features their house-made mac & cheese.

60 Bull Cafe

60 Bull St, Charleston, SC 29401
(843) 718-3145

We love soul food, and Charleston seems like the perfect city to indulge in such delights. 60 Bull Café is a no-fuss café that is open from breakfast until dinner. There isn’t a lot of seating inside, but that’s so that they can show off their extensive wine selection. Tables and chairs are also available outside. The menu offers some incredible options such as hash with Spanish chorizo. The fried chicken & waffle stands out here as they make their waffles in-house and create a Granny Smith apple and pecan relish to serve with the entree.
