We fell in love with matchbox the first time we wandered in. The place is high-energy and has an industrial chic vibe throughout the dining room. TVs line the bar so you can keep up with the games on. While they are known for their wood-fired pies, they also have an extensive menu of fresh, local options. Crab cakes, shrimp + grits, and more are available. You can also pop in for a brunch where you’ll find bottomless bloody marys and mimosas.

When you want to enjoy food from a celebrity chef, we can’t say enough good things about Jaleo by Jose Andres. The location is conveniently found in The Lansburgh. The Spanish bistro has a colorful dining room with a beautifully placed patio to watch the hustle and bustle of DC while you eat. Beyond seafood and other Spanish classics, you’ll also find cheeses and flautas. A chef’s tasting menu is the best way to indulge. The ChopHouse stands out as a premium choice because it’s not just another sports bar. They actually brew craft beer and ale on-site, providing you with delicious options from the bar. The interior is cozy with booths and tables that allow you to have a bit of privacy away from other diners. Steaks are the signature component of the menu, though you’ll also be able to find seafood, pork chops, and more. Irish Channel Restaurant & Pub

One of the things we love about Irish Channel is that it combines two of our favorites – Irish and Cajun cuisine. It’s found inside Fairfield Inn & Suites and offers a relaxed atmosphere. You’ll want to start with a decadent plate of Irish Nachos. From there, you’ll find everything from jambalaya to Guinness stew. If you can save a bit of room for dessert, their bread pudding is off the charts.

Urban Roast

916 G St NW suite c-2, Washington, DC 20001

Urban Roast is one of the more casual options on our list, but we had to include it because of our love of coffee. They’re open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday and just dinner on Monday. Amazing coffee is brewed and fills the air with a delightful aroma. Once seated, you can explore the menu that is filled with mac and cheese, sandwiches, and even indulgent entrees like eggplant parmesan.
