Gutter took that expertise, and turned it into Pizza Plus and Circles and Squares – two of Philadelphia’s best pizza places. They do everything from Traditional pies to Detroit style square pizzas with caramelized cheese on the crust. And Pizza Plus has some extras for the really hungry person in your group, like the mouthwatering Smash Burgers or pizza curly fries!
2. Pizza Jawn

If you live in Philly, you learned pretty quick what a Jawn is (translation for the non Philly folks – jawn is basically a person/place/thing). But unless you’ve been out to Manayunk lately, you haven’t had a chance to try Pizza Jawn. After 10 years of experimenting with pizza recipes and 2 years operating as a mobile food truck, that jawn is now locked in place as one of Philly’s best pies – and maybe Philly’s best pepperoni altogether!

Pizzeria Beddia has been dubbed America’s best pizza at one point by Bon Appetit magazine. Because of this distinction, the pies are a little on the pricier side, but still worth it. Also, get your reservations in early – these guys were still drawing crowds pre-COVID.

At Pizza Shackamaxon, they’re focused on the perfect slice. With a thin and crispy crust, these floppy bites are perfect in every way. Opened in 2018, this humble corner shop at Shackamaxon and Girard does not deliver! If you want a large pie, you’ll have to come by, order it and wait – and trust us, it’s worth it!
5. Pizza Brain + Pizza Dads

The oven has been around since 1918 and has been churning out “tomato pies” since 1946. Known for a heavy-on-the-sauce approach, these guys deliver truly classic Philadelphia pizza. Now in its fifth generation, Tacconellis continues serving out pizzas just as delicious as the hot new restaurant in your neighborhood.

You may have seen the hype around this place when Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports gave his 5 star review – lines were out the door for weeks. Opened 2013 in South Philly there’s a reason for the hype – the pizzas are an incredible, foldable and floppy delight. They also make excellent hoagies and cheesesteaks!

Nomad came by its name honestly, starting as a catering company that served delicious, Neapolitan style pizzas out of their REO Speedwagon pizza oven. With a big, big focus on fresh ingredients, they’ve kept the pies simple, while expanding the menu to include some roman style pizzas too. Make sure you check out their beer list when you visit for a great selection of 12+ drafts.

Established in 1959, Santucci’s is Philly’s famous original square pizza. The business has passed down three generations, but the pizza has not. These square pies take the sauce-on-top-of-cheese approach and with the gravy their grandma is making, it’s the right approach.
